Dolphins quarter-by-quarter highlights
FIRST QUARTER
HIGHLIGHTS
A big play -- a Cleo Lemon bomb to Ted Ginn Jr. for 54 yards -- and a bigger-than-average play -- Samkon Gado's 12-yard run -- got the Dolphins their first offensive touchdown since the third quarter of the first game vs. Buffalo on Nov. 11.
LOWLIGHTS
Everything else. A franchise-record-tying 24 points allowed. Starting quarterback John Beck stumbled on his first snap and fumbled on his last one, the latter getting returned for a touchdown. Ted Ginn Jr.'s fumbled punt led to another Buffalo touchdown.
IMPACT PLAYER
On Buffalo's first TD, the last two plays were 29 yards worth of Trent Edwards completions. The last play of the second touchdown drive was a 28-yard pass from Edwards to Robert Royal.
SECOND QUARTER
HIGHLIGHTS
The best thing that could be said about the quarter is Buffalo scored only one more TD.
LOWLIGHTS
Lemon threw two interceptions, fumbled two snaps and took a beating. Linebacker Joey Porter dropped what could've been an interception after Vonnie Holliday blasted Edwards as the quarterback threw.
IMPACT PLAYER
Lemon's first interception, throwing off his back foot in the face of a rush, set up Buffalo's TD. His second, while being cracked by an unblocked rusher, ended a Dolphins scoring threat.
THIRD QUARTER
HIGHLIGHTS
The Dolphins reeled off 10 consecutive points to get back into the game. With the defense providing two three-and-outs and a Jason Taylor fumble recovery, a wild miracle seemed possible.
LOWLIGHTS
Another dropped snap denied the Dolphins a chance to get more than a field goal out of their third possession. Pressure caused Lemon to overthrow a wide-open Ted Ginn Jr. with the score 31-17 and the Dolphins driving.
IMPACT PLAYER
Gado's 20-yard burst through two tackles made the score 31-14 and he took a check-down pass 35 yards, leading to Jay Feely's 41-yard field goal.
FOURTH QUARTER
HIGHLIGHTS
The Dolphins twice put together long drives . . .
LOWLIGHTS
. . . only to see both end in failed fourth downs in Buffalo territory. The Bills put the game away with a 70-yard TD pass to Lee Evans.
IMPACT PLAYER
It was only one play, but it was the definition of impact, the knockout punch. On third-and-9, Evans got behind cornerback Travis Daniels down the left sideline. When safety Jason Allen was late to the party with help, Evans was open for the TD that made the score 38-17.
