Dolphins set camp dates
Dolphins rookies and other select players will report to training camp July 22 and practice for the first time July 24, the team said Monday.
Veterans report five days later on July 27, and the first full-squad practice will be July 28. It will be the first of 25 practices open to the public.
All but one practice will be at the team's Nova Southeastern training facility in Davie. The last practice open to the public is Aug. 19.
Parking and admission are free to practices that are open to the public. The Davie facility has a 2,000-seat capacity for fans.
Three practices—July 31, Aug. 3 and Aug. 7—will be at 7 p.m. Autograph sessions for those practices will be held before practice. The Aug. 7 practice will be at Dolphin Stadium.
While the early start should help rookie players acclimate to the NFL more quickly, it also shortens the amount of time the Dolphins have to get their remaining unsigned draft picks under contract before holdouts ensue.
Six of the 10 selections have signed, but the team has yet to finalize negotiations with first-round pick Ted Ginn Jr.
The Dolphins' last two first-round picks – running back Ronnie Brown (2005) and safety Jason Allen (2006) – staged lengthy holdouts, which is something team owner H. Wayne Huizenga has vowed won't happen again. Ted Ginn Jr. recently said he was optimistic about having a deal completed in time for the start of training camp.
The other unsigned picks are quarterback John Beck (second round), center Samson Satele (second) and guard Drew Mormino (sixth).
