Dolphins' Goodman aims for Week 3
Dolphins cornerback André Goodman, recovering from offseason shoulder surgery, said Tuesday the most realistic target date for a return would be the third game of the regular season Sept. 23 at the Jets, and ``anything after Game 3 would be disappointing.''
He said the ''worst possible scenario'' would be if he's placed on the physically unable to perform list, which would require him to sit out the first six games.
Goodman said he will meet Aug. 27 in New York with a Giants team physician who operated on his shoulder. Goodman said he hopes ``to get permission to go through individual drills.''
He said he still feels ''a little discomfort'' and weakness in the shoulder, and doesn't have full range of motion. With Goodman out, Travis Daniels will remain a starter opposite Will Allen.
Meanwhile, Allen missed team drills in Tuesday's afternoon practice after he sustained a groin or hamstring injury. (The team doesn't comment after the second practice on days with two sessions.) Jason Allen filled Will Allen's slot.
MORE REST?
Zach Thomas said he hasn't been told if he will play Thursday night at Kansas City, and coach Cam Cameron won't address the issue until today. But it wouldn't be surprising if Thomas, Jason Taylor and Keith Traylor play sparingly, or not at all. None of the three played in Saturday's exhibition opener against Jacksonville.
''I don't want them to play,'' linebacker Channing Crowder said. ``There's no reason to go out there and get hurt. We just know it's not worth it, especially if you know Zach's ankle is tweaked and [Traylor], 17 years, his whole body is messed up.''
• Receiver Chris Chambers fell hard on his back when he jumped for a ball in the end zone late in the second practice and didn't return. Chambers walked gingerly off the field when the practice ended.
Rookie linebacker Kelvin Smith missed both practices because of a ''twisted ankle,'' but the injury isn't serious, Cameron said.
GREEN'S RETURN
Quarterback Trent Green downplayed his return to Kansas City, but said it ''adds a little more drama'' to a second exhibition game. ''I had a great six years there and enjoyed it,'' he said. ``I'm just lucky to be down here.''
Green said he never felt disrespected by the Chiefs. He pushed for a trade to the Dolphins after being told that the Chiefs wanted to get younger at quarterback, with Brodie Croyle challenging veteran Damon Huard.
''I didn't agree with the decision, but I understood the decision,'' he said.
On other issues, Green praised receivers Derek Hagan and Ted Ginn Jr.. ''Derek continues to make plays,'' Green said. ``Ted's grown a lot. [Tuesday] was probably one of his better practices.''
On the development of the offense, Green said, ``You'd like to have it happen a whole lot quicker, but it's a process. We do have time until the opener.''
