Some guys to watch out for this fantasy season
Well, I hope everyone is still sane after their fantasy football drafts. For the most part things have gone well in mine. I am attempting to manage an all-time high of four teams, which is making me think I need medical attention.
In our “Item League” I ended up nabbing Stephen Jackson with the second pick. But after your draft, you might be wondering who you should keep an eye on. So here are the top ten sleepers to watch for, in no particular order:
10. Anthony Gonzales, WR, Indianapolis: Now that Brandon Stokley has parted ways with the team, Peyton Manning needs a new slot guy. Gonzales steps right in. If and when Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne can’t get open, this 6-foot, 193 pound rookie can get the yards.
9. Brandon Marshall, WR, Denver: Here is a second year man lining up opposite Javon Walker, and he looks like he could become a premiere target for quarterback Jay Cutler.
8. Vernon Davis, TE, San Francisco: A 6-foot-3, 256 monster of a target for Alex Smith. Davis was out most of last season due to injury, so no one knows what he is really capable of doing on the field. Well, get ready to find out.
7. Matt Schaub, QB, Houston: With Andre Johnson, and the fact that he isn’t incompetent, who knows what he might be able to do this season for the Texans.
6. Marion Barber III, RB, Dallas: Last season, Barber seemed get most of the touches around the goal line for the Cowboys. Coach Wade Phillips seems more sold on Julius Jones, but if Jones starts to slip, keep an eye on Barber to see more carries.
5. Matt Leinart, QB, Arizona: He might not be that much of a “sleeper,” but if you need some help at the starting quarterback spot, remember this — Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.
4. Mike Bell, RB, Denver: Now with Tatum Bell parting to Detroit, Mike can take the load of the carries for the Broncos. And last season, Bell had 677 yards rushing with eight touchdowns while splitting carries.
3a. Trent Green, QB, Miami. 3b. Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Miami: This goes hand in hand. If Green can succeed in the last run of his career, it is going to be because he is able to find Ted Ginn Jr. open all the time. Otherwise, pretend I never said any of this. Ted Ginn Jr. will also be returning kicks, so if you are in a league which has kick returns as a points category, he could be a good pickup.
2. Brady Quinn, QB, Cleveland: The hold out set him back and coach Romeo Crennel is going to start Charlie Frye. I give it three weeks before the switch is made, and you keep hearing “Brady Quinn to Edwards ... touchdown!” weekly.
1. Marshawn Lynch, RB, Buffalo: OK, everyone knows about him by now. But if you haven’t drafted yet, and don’t have one of the top five running backs, take a chance on Lynch.
