Dolphins' coach looks ahead
DAVIE -- The Miami Dophins are back where they began.
Cam Cameron is off to the worst start of any first-year Dolphins coach since George Wilson, who lost his first five games with the AFL expansion team in 1966.
Despite an 0-2 record, Cameron said he's confident there are better days ahead -- perhaps beginning Sunday, when the Dolphins play the equally winless New York Jets.
"This can be a good football team," Cameron said, stressing that the season is young.
Quarterback Trent Green is coming off one of his worst games in a 14-year career, the running game ranks last in the NFL, the defense looks old and such newcomers as $32 million linebacker Joey Porter and top draft pick Ted Ginn Jr. have yet to make an impact.
The Dolphins have missed the playoffs for the past five seasons, including going 6-10 in 2006.
For the record, the 1966 Miami Dolphins finished 3-11 -- still the worst season in franchise history.
Jacksonville Jaguars, : Lackadaisical Jones irks Del Rio
JACKSONVILLE -- Coach Jack Del Rio, as did others before him, has publicly questioned the on-the-field demeanor of former first-round pick Matt Jones.
Del Rio criticized the receiver for his sometimes-lackadaisical body language, indicating Jones takes plays off and pouts when he doesn't get the ball.
Jones said he got similar questions in high school and college.
"It's how I am," Jones said, wearing a fishing hat, slippers and sporting a scruffy red beard. "I'm not a guy that's jumping up and down all the time."
Jones caught 77 passes for 1,075 yards and nine touchdowns his first two years. Now he's behind Dennis Northcutt and Ernest Wilford on the depth chart and hasn't made a push for a starting spot.
He dropped a pass in the end zone in the opener and dropped another last week when he got sandwiched between two defenders over the middle.
